Moving Minnesota Forward: Behavioral Health at the Crossroads

The state is implementing a number of reforms to achieve a continuum of care across Minnesota that includes access to and equitable payment for mental and chemical health services. The Governor’s Taskforce on Mental Health laid out a roadmap for the successful implementation of these and other reforms, now is our opportunity to dream as a community about where it might take us.

Assistant Commissioner for Community Supports

Claire Wilson is assistant commissioner for the Community Supports Administration. Community Supports includes all DHS behavioral health policy areas, including the divisions of Mental Health, Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Disability Services, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, and Housing and Support Services. Wilson has more than two decades of experience in public policy and related issues.

Wilson came to DHS June 13, 2016, from the Minnesota Association of Community Mental Health Programs, where she served as executive director. In that role, she provided strategic and administrative leadership, creating coalitions of stakeholders to advance improvements in mental health. She has also served in a leadership role for the Office of the Minnesota Secretary of State, where her work included outreach to undeserved communities. In addition, she was a 2013 Humphrey Policy Fellow at the University of Minnesota Humphrey School of Public Affairs.

Learn the value of  how “being” is often more important than “doing” and walk away with the  awareness of how you can be just another “expert” in the world or you can  choose to “Be the Exception."

Before receiving the prestigious College Instructor of the Year Award, Dr. Jermaine Davis worked in corporate America for IBM, Keebler Cookies, and Frito-Lay in the areas of sales, marketing, and management. Now, he’s an award-winning Professor of Communication Studies at Century College and Organizational Leadership at St. Catherine University. Dr. Jermaine has authored 10 books including, Get Up Off Your Butt & Do It NOW and Leading with Greatness. 

Dr. Jermaine was raised in a drug- and gang- infested area on the west-side of Chicago in a single-parent home.  After the tragic loss of six family members to violent deaths, he enrolled in college to change the direction of his life. Dr. Jermaine holds a BA and a MA in Speech Communications, and a Doctorate in Organizational Leadership. 

Dr. Jermaine is an international speaker and leadership coach that engages audiences with his unique style of speaking known as – EDUTAINMENT – a fun combination of education and entertainment.
